Call of Freedom

Featured Painting: Washington Coastline
By Pat Forbes

There are moments in life when the soul longs to be unbound—not to flee, but to return to its natural state. The painting Washington Coastline captures this feeling for me: powerful, open, mist-kissed. It reminds me of what it feels like to stand at the edge of something wild and remember who I am beneath all the expectations.

This poem flowed from that place—part memory, part longing, part declaration.

Call of Freedom

Freedom calls me,
to a world of endless possibility.
How I crave to be free,
to move without asking, to be without proving.

There’s a part of me still standing
at the edge of some wide open field,
feet rooted in duty,
but my soul already soaring.

Not to escape—
but to return
to the self I was
before I learned to shrink.

I don’t want power.
I want space.
I want silence without guilt.
I want to live like light lives—
without apology,
without fear,
without asking for permission to shine.

If this painting or poem speaks to you, I’d love to hear what it stirs.
We all have a coastline inside us—a place where something deep meets something boundless. Maybe this is yours too.
