By Pat Forbes
I’ve spent most of my life on the West Coast—24 years in California, and 35 more in Washington. Each place left its mark on me, not just in memory, but in the way I see the world and express myself through art.
California gave me fire.
It’s where I learned to be bold, independent, and unafraid to speak my truth. The sun, the movement, the endless possibilities—it all stirred something rebellious and creative in me from an early age.
Washington gave me depth.
There’s something about the quiet of the Pacific Northwest—the tall trees, the misty skies, the rhythm of rain—that calls you inward. It’s where my soul deepened. It’s where I began to listen more closely, not just to others, but to my own spirit.
Now I live in the Kansas City area, supporting family and embracing this new chapter. But deep down, I’ll always be a West Coast girl—rooted in both spark and stillness, sunlight and shadow.
Those landscapes still live in my work—
in the movement of paint, the colors I choose, the emotions that surface.
Every painting I create carries a piece of the places that made me.
And maybe, a piece of you too.
