The Strength of Farmers
This piece, titled “Farm Life”, reflects my impressionist approach to daily life of farming the land in Kansas.
This painting is a quiet testament to trust—the kind that isn’t spoken, but lived. The trust a farmer places in the land, the sky, and the passing of time. Under shifting clouds and weather-worn light, the red barn stands steady, not as a symbol of comfort, but of commitment. It has seen drought and deluge, abundance and lean years, and it remains—because it must.
The sky carries both promise and threat, reminding us that farm life is never separate from uncertainty. Storms will come. Rain will fall when it chooses. Crops grow at their own pace. Survival here isn’t about control—it’s about faith in cycles, in work done day after day without guarantees. The windmill, tall and patient, bears witness to generations who rose before dawn, trusting that effort and endurance mattered, even when outcomes were unknown.
The muddy path, the small tractor, the standing water—these details speak to labor, resilience, and humility. Nothing is polished. Nothing is wasted. Everything serves a purpose. Life on the farm teaches that strength is quiet, that perseverance doesn’t announce itself, and that faith is often nothing more than showing up again tomorrow.
This scene honors the belief that survival isn’t heroic—it’s faithful. It’s trusting the land to heal, the seasons to turn, and the sky to eventually clear. It is a reminder that some lives are built not on certainty, but on a deep, enduring relationship with nature—one that asks for patience, respect, and unwavering trust.

Like most of my work, this piece began with broad brush strokes and a sense of curiosity. I built the scene with layers of acrylic, stepping back often to see how the colors were talking to each other. The final result balances structure and spontaneity — a mix of impressionism, emotion, and a little bit of rebellion against keeping things too perfect.
